Bohemians wrap up Andre Wright signing as Sam Byrne leaves club

Bohemians have wrapped up the signing of striker Andre Wright but Sam Byrne has left.

The Englishman, 22, impressed on trial in recent weeks and caught the eye in the friendly draw with Chelsea.

A product of West Brom’s academy, he was most recently with Gloucester City but also had spells with Torquay, Nuneaton Town, Kidderminster and Coventry City, on loan.

Gypsies boss Keith Long was eager to strengthen his attacking options following the long-term ankle injury Dinny Corcoran suffered in May.

Long said: “Andre has had a number of training sessions with us over the past two weeks and has impressed.

“Ryan Swan needs support up front as it’s his first season playing Premier Division football and he can’t do it all on his own.

“We felt we needed to look further afield than just our own league to bring someone in who could make a difference."

Long added: “Fitness-wise, he’s towards the latter part of pre-season so he’s fit, not 100% match fit, but ready to feature in games.”

Former Manchester United and Everton youth Byrne was a peripheral figure with Bohs and has been released from his contract.

Elsewhere, Sligo Rovers have signed Accrington Stanley midfielder Niall Watson, 19,  on loan until the end of the season but Liam Kerrigan has left the Bit O'Red for UCD.
