Bohemians searching across the UK for a new striker after Dinny Corcoran injury

Bohemians are scouring England and Scotland for a new striker.

The Gypsies have been forced to assess their options following the foot injury Dinny Corcoran sustained in last week’s home defeat to Sligo Rovers.

Experienced frontman Corcoran could be sidelined for a number of months and his absence leaves Bohs light up front.

Free agents in England and players involved in the Scottish Showcase and Exit trials - on this week and concluding tomorrow - will be considered.

But Bohs youngster Ross Tierney is hoping for another crack of the whip after scoring on his first senior start in Monday’s EA Sports Cup quarter-final win over Cork City.

His opening goal set the Gypsies on their way to a 2-0 victory and Tierney - who starts his Leaving Cert next week - insists he wouldn’t be daunted if handed another go.

A product of St Kevin’s Boys, the attacking midfielder said: “I was actually preparing for the U19s game in Longford last Sunday.

“But Craig Sexton, the U19s manager, rang me saying that I’d be in the first team squad on Monday instead. I trained with the first team expecting just to be in the squad but Keith Long pulled me aside and said, “You know why you’re here?.

“And then he told me that I’d be starting. It was a bit of a surprise. I was delighted to get the chance to show what I can do.

“I don’t think I started as well as I’d have liked but the intensity was always going to be higher from what I’m used to and I knew that. Keith says it will take time to adjust.

“We’ve one of the youngest teams in the league but Keith says it doesn’t matter what age or height you are - if you’re good enough, you’re old enough.

“It drives you on when you see players not much older than you playing regularly for the first team. Bohs have become the best club in the country for bringing players through. We’re one big club from first team down to U13s.

“We don’t have money like other clubs but what we have that is more important is togetherness and trust from Keith.”

Bohs will have goalkeeper James Talbot available for tonight’s clash.

Drafted into the Ireland squad last weekend to face Denmark and Gibraltar in Euro 2020 qualifiers, he will face Finn Harps before rejoining Ireland on Saturday.
