Bohemians ecstatic over Matt Doherty's move as club nets major cash boost

Bohemians fans and board members have reacted with joy to the news of Matt Doherty's transfer from Wolves to Tottenham.

The 28-year-old swapped Dalymount Park for Molineux 10 years ago after Wolves liked what they saw in a pre-season friendly against the League of Ireland side.

The full-back never played a senior competitive game for Bohs but has received plenty of well-wishes from fans of the club as a sell-on clause agreed in 2010 means they are entitled to 10 per cent of the transfer fee - believed to be in the region of  €18.

Bohs are set to land a major windfall of around €1.8m which their Chief Operating Officer Daniel Lambert promises the club will spend prudently.

Reacting to today's news, Bohemians tweeted: "Congratulations @mattdoherty20 on your big move to @SpursOfficial. And from everyone at Dalymount Park, thanks for everything."

COO Lambert declared that 'karma had arrived' for the title challengers.

"It’s happened! Best of luck to Matt, for Bohemians this is fairly seismic, we will not squander it, will adhere to our sustainable strategic planning," he tweeted.

"Keep on growing and improving, building a club with clear values on and off the pitch. Karma has arrived for us."

Former Bohs President  and current Commercial Director Matt Devaney added: "Oh my days !!! I’ve had his contract saved to my desktop for the last 10 years in the hope this might happen."
