Bohemian Rhapsody director Bryan Singer reacts to film's Golden Globes win on Instagram

Bohemian Rhapsody director Bryan Singer has reacted to the film’s Golden Globes win.

The controversial filmmaker – who was fired from the production and replaced by Dexter Fletcher – was not mentioned by the producers or leading actor Rami Malek during their acceptance speeches.

Acknowledging the victory on Instagram, Singer posted a behind-the-scenes image of himself sitting in a chair marked “director” as Malek recreates a scene from Queen's “I Want to Break Free” music video.

Singer captioned the image “What an honour. Thank you” and tagged the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the awards body who decide the Golden Globes winners.

Singer was removed from the project midway through filming, with 20th Century Fox announcing they had “temporarily halted production on Bohemian Rhapsody due to the unexpected unavailability of Bryan Singer”.

Reports soon emerged that the cast had mutinied over the director’s behaviour on set, with Singer allegedly arriving late on a regular basis. He argued that the studio had refused to allow him to return to the US to care for an ill parent and denied falling out with Malek.

Despite Fletcher filming two weeks worth of footage and helming the film through post-production, Singer still has the directing credit due to Directors Guild of America rules.

Meanwhile, the Golden Globes, designed to award the best in film and television, also saw wins for Green Book and The Marvellous Mrs Maisel. You can find a full list of winners here.
