Bogus workmen target vulnerable Scots pensioner as manhunt launched

Police have warned elderly residents to “shut out” bogus workmen after a 83-year-old woman was targeted.

Officers warned the public in Aberdeenshire to be vigilant after crooks struck in Fraserburgh.

The incident happened on Wednesday March 3 at a home on Old Strichen Road where the elderly woman was targeted by suspected bogus workmen.

Three men offered to carry out garden work at the property and after carrying out a small amount of work, the men tried to take the elderly woman to the bank to pay them.

Constable Neale Gawthorpe, of North East Police Division, said: “Our enquiries into this incident are ongoing. I would appeal for anyone who has been a victim of this type of incident to contact Police Scotland.

“These type of criminals prey on the elderly and vulnerable and I urge communities to remain vigilant and to make sure that they look out for any vulnerable persons in their communities.

“If workmen come to your address offering services and you are not certain of whether or not they are legitimate or you don’t want their services please say no and report them to police as soon as possible.

“If in doubt, shut them out.”
