Bogus workmen steal hundreds of pounds from an elderly woman in Fife

Two bogus workmen have stolen hundreds of pounds from an elderly woman in Fife.

The pair targeted the woman in Gilmour Street, Cowdenbeath, saying they were there to do gardening work around 2.30pm on Monday.

She gave them access to her home and £100, but no work was carried out.

The woman later found out a three-figure sum of money had been stolen from her home.

Inspector Cameron from Cowdenbeath police station said: "These criminals have exploited the trust of this woman to steal a sum of money from within her home. I am appealing for anyone who can help us identify these individuals, or who has any information relevant to this investigation, to contact police immediately.

"The public are reminded to never allow unsolicited callers to carry out work at their home and never allow anyone entry if you are not entirely certain of who they are.

"Those with information can contact Police Scotland via 101 quoting incident number 2181 of 26 August. Alternatively, reports can be made anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."

The men were driving a white Ford Transit van and were aged between 20 and 40.

The first man had a slim build with short fair or blond hair and was wearing a grey shirt and grey trousers.

The second was also of slim build, with dark brown hair in a mullet style wearing dark clothing.
