Bogus workmen drove Scots pensioner to bank to withdraw thousands in sick scam

Police have launched a hunt for two bogus workmen who tried to scam an elderly Scots man out of thousands.

The pair had been working on the man's home in Tiree Crescent, Falkirk for between the past week and seven days.

After agreeing for works to be carried including paving, fence repair, the original price quoted increased and eventually ran into thousands of pounds.

Cops say the job was left unfinished and was of poor quality.

The pensioner was taken to the bank to withdraw huge sums of cash but quick thinking staff alerted police.

Cops said they were driving a white van with an Irish registration plate and have released descriptions of the suspects.

A police statement read: "Two suspects are described as:Male 1: 40-60 years of age, 5 6”, stocky build, short grey hair and spoke with a slight Irish accent

"Male 2: 20-40 years of age 5 8”, athletic build, short black hair, spoke with a local accent. Wearing wearing a light coloured cap and jacket.

"The suspects are understood to be travelling in a white coloured Transit van with an Irish number plate (prefix unknown).

"These males have canvassed the area for a period of time having agreed work on other properties to be carried out.

"Anyone with information, please contact us on 101 quoting incident number 1185 of 27th October 2020 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111"
