Bogus workman swindles two pensioners out of cash in Scots town

Two pensioners have been defrauded by a bogus workman in Kirkcaldy, Fife.

Police said the elderly women were swindled out of a “sum of money ” by a man who was alleged to have carried out inspection and repair work on rowing's and guttering at two properties in Maree Place.

The incident happened between 2.30pm and 4.30pm on Friday, September 10.

The suspect is described as a white man in his 30s, around 5ft 7ins to 5ft 8ins in height and of stocky build with short dark hair.

He spoke with a local accent and was wearing a baseball cap and casual jogging style trousers and top.

Inspector Gordon Anderson said: “This is an appalling crime targeting some of the most vulnerable in our society.

“It is vital we find out who is responsible for this and therefore I am appealing to the public and local residents of Kirkcaldy to get in touch if they can assist our enquiries.

“We are carrying out extra patrols and speaking to those in the local area, however I would also encourage residents to check CCTV or dash-cam footage as it may assist us in our investigation.”
