Bogus health care workers offering 'home testing' for coronavirus, Bury council warns residents

People posing as health care workers are offering 'home testing' for the coronavirus.

Suspicious callers are said to have been knocking on the doors of the elderly and vulnerable, saying they are health officials doing door-to-door testing.

Bury Council has spoken out about the 'unscrupulous' callers, urging its residents to not open their doors to the bogus workers.

Angela Lomax, head of trading standards and licensing at Bury Council, said: "Even at this unprecedented time, when we should all be pulling together, there are unscrupulous people who are trying to take advantage of the most vulnerable in society.

“Our message is – don’t fall for these bogus claims and close the door.”

Just last week, Greater Manchester Police's Bury South neighbourhood team also warned against the fake 'coronavirus testers'.

Bury Council and GMP has advised people to report any bogus callers.

To report cases of rogue traders or uninvited doorstep callers, call the Citizens Advice Consumer Service on 0808 223 1133.

GMP says residents can also report suspicious callers to GMP on 101 or in an emergency dial 999.
