Bodyguard star Richard Madden receives honorary degree from Royal Conservatoire of Scotland

The star of BBC's Bodyguard, Richard Madden, has today received an honorary degree from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow.

The former Game of Thrones actor was recognised for his contribution to drama during the institution's summer graduation ceremony, attended by more than 300 graduates.

Other graduates from the school on the day were collecting degrees in music, drama, dance, production and film.

Richard Madden himself, who is originally from Elderslie in Renfrewshire, graduated from the Conservatoire in 2007 before going on to star as Rob Stark in Game of Thrones from 2011.

It has been a week of honorary degrees for the arts in Glasgow, with Outlander star Sam Heughan also receiving an honorary degree at Glasgow University.

Unsurprisingly, Glasgow has been more than a bit excited about Richard Madden's appearance at the Conservatoire, with users on Twitter sharing praise, encouragement and awkward selfies.

One Twitter user, Clare, shared a hilarious picture of her pointing at the TV star as he stood on the steps outside the ceremony.

Others simply enjoyed being able to say 'Doctor Madden'...

We're rather proud of you too Doctor Richard Madden - remember us when you're (still) famous!
