Bodycare store closures: Full list of 30 more sites closing and 235 jobs lost

A further 235 Bodycare employees have lost their jobs this week after the retailer closed another 30 stores around the country, having entered into administration.

The UK health and beauty retailer, which boasts 147 stores nationwide, confirmed it had fallen into administration at the start of September, plunging the fate of their workforce into uncertainty.

An initial 32 stores were closed following the announcement, followed by another 30 this week, as bosses rush to try and find a buyer for the business following its collapse.

“Given the shortage of stock and costs associated with operating stores, it is no longer viable to continue to trade all 115 stores retained on appointment," the spokesperson said, with bosses previously adding that rising rent had made things unsustainable.

Originally launched in 1970, Bodycare is known for selling a wealth of affordable health, beauty and skincare products, but it’s been largely sidelined in a competitive retail space where shifting consumer habits have led to increased demand in online shopping.

So far, a total of 685 out of 1,500 Bodycare employees have lost their jobs, as the UK high street continues to see a record slump, which raises concerns about the future facing the country’s retail staff.

A lot of store closures are also happening in underfunded and neglected areas of the UK, adding to further frustration among local communities that feel largely forgotten about by the UK government.

Bodycare’s administration makes it the latest victim of the British high street’s demise, which has followed suit after Poundland, Homebase, and New Look also announced store closures.
