Body recovered from Victorian lake believed to be that of missing boater

Police believe they have found the body of missing man Trevor McKie after a three-week search.

Water police found the body in Lake Wellington yesterday at 5:30pm.

Police are preparing a report for the coroner, but they are not treating the death as suspicious.

Inspector Craig Gaffee said the body was yet to be formally identified.

"There are a number of indicators where we believe it's the body of the missing person," he said.

"The family have been notified, clearly they're distressed and very upset."

Trevor McKie and his 72-year-old father were boating on July 19 when Mr McKie fell overboard.

Mr McKie's father was pulled from the water that evening and taken to hospital, suffering from shock.

Police searched for more than three weeks, using helicopters, boats, and rescue divers.
