Emergency services cordoned off a section of Avonmouth Bridge this afternoon after a man's body was discovered underneath.
Officers, firefighter, paramedics and a police helicopter all attended the scene, at around 4:30pm today, April 1.
A man was found dead at the scene.
Avon and Somerset Police said: "We were called at 4.30pm to the Avonmouth Bridge between junction 18 and 19 of the M5 to reports of a concern for welfare.

"Sadly a man was pronounced dead at the scene."
Avon Fire and Rescue Service also attended. Two crews from Avonmouth assisted police.
A spokesperson for South Western Ambulance Service said the authority sent specially trained paramedics.
Most people who are thinking of taking their own life have shown warning signs beforehand.
These can include becoming depressed, showing sudden changes in behaviour, talking about wanting to die and feelings of hopelessness.
These feelings do improve and can be treated.
