Body recovered from South Lanarkshire river as family of missing man informed

The body of a man has been recovered from a river in South Lanarkshire.

Police and emergency services were called to the Avon Water, known locally as the River Avon, just off Glen Avenue in Larkhall on Sunday night (August 1).

The body of a man was subsequently recovered from the water at about 10.10pm that evening, Lanarkshire Live reports.

Police enquiries remain ongoing to identify the man in question, although the family of a local missing man has been informed regarding the recovery.

There does not appear to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 10.10pm on Sunday, 1 August, the body of a man was recovered from water near to Glen Avenue, Larkhall.

"Enquiries are ongoing to identify the man at this time. There would not appear to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death. A full report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

"The family of a local missing man has been informed regarding this recovery.”
