Body recovered from Scottish river days after man seen entering water

A BODY has been recovered from the River Leven in West Dunbartonshire, days after a man was seen entering the water.

Police said they recovered the body of a man in the river near India Street, Alexandria, at around 12pm on Thursday.

The man has been formally identified.

It comes after the emergency services were seen searching the river at the weekend after receiving a report at around 7.30pm on Saturday September 13, that a man was seen entering the river.

Police helicopters, the Coastguard and fire crews were all involved in the search for the man, who was last seen wearing a grey hat and dark grey jacket.

Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances

A spokesperson for Police Scotland: “The body of a man was recovered from the River Leven near to India Street, Alexandria by police following searches around 12pm on Thursday, September 18.

“He has been formally identified and his next of kin is aware.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
