Body recovered from Fountainbridge tenement after explosion

A body has been recovered from a tenement building in Edinburgh after an explosion and fire last week .

Identification of the remains are yet to take place after they were discovered last week.

An investigation into the explosion is underway however it is not believed to be suspicious.

A large part of the building fell onto the pavement below after the blast which resulted in the nearby Tollcross Primary School being shut.

A large portion of the building has now been demolished.

Fountainbridge in the capital, between Ponton Street and Gardner's Crescent , remains closed off after the incident on the second floor last Tuesday, September 10.

The majority of pupils have now returned to school.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "A body has been recovered and formal identification is yet to take place."
