Body recovered from Co Fermanagh water following 'boating accident'

The body of a man has been recovered from the water in Co Fermanagh following what is understood to have been a boating accident.

Emergency Services were tasked to the area on Saturday, January 2 following reports a person was missing following a boating accident on the water.

PSNI, RNLI Carry Bridge together with Coastguard Rescue and Rescue 118 helicopter carried out initial searches at the scene before the Community Rescue Service (CRS) were also called in.

A CRS spokesperson said: "CRS deployed one of our Swiftwater Rescue teams to the area and following an assessment on the ground, CRS National Search Managers and the Police Search Advisor agreed our operational plan and volunteer divers were deployed, assisted by SRT personnel from CRS and colleagues from Lough Neagh Rescue in a joint operation to locate the missing person.

"A short time after deploying divers located a body believed to be that of the missing person which was recovered to shore by the SRT personnel.
"The management and volunteers of the Community Rescue Service extend their deepest sympathy to the family and friends of the deceased at this sad time."

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the sudden death of a man whose body was recovered from the water at the Drumettagh Road area of Derrylin on Saturday afternoon (January 2nd).

"The death is not being treated as suspicious."
