Body pulled from water in South Queensferry after major three-hour search operation

A body has been pulled from the Firth of Forth after a major search operation.

Emergency crews raced to Hawes Pier in South Queensferry, which sits next to the Forth Rail Bridge, at around 3.30pm this afternoon amid reports that a person had entered the water.

It's since been confirmed that a body has been recovered after a search lasting almost three hours.

The condition of the person recovered is not yet known.

The search included crews from the lifeboat and coastguard as well as a number of commercial vessels.

Ambulance and police teams were also in attendance.

The incident took place at Hawes Pier, under the Forth Rail Bridge in South Queensferry (Google Maps)

A spokesperson for the Maritime and Coastguard  Agency: "The coastguard responded to calls from the ambulance service at around 3.30pm requesting assistance amid reports a person had entered the water in the Firth of Forth at South Queensferry.

"A lifeboat from South Queensferry responded along with a number of commercial vessels.

"A coastguard team from South Queensferry also attended. Crews were stood down at around 6.15pm.

"A body was recovered and it is now a matter for the police."

A spokesperson for Police Scotland was unable to comment when approached by the Record.
