Body pulled from Union Canal in West Lothian sparks police investigation

A body has been pulled from the Union Canal, sparking a sudden death probe by police.

The grim discovery was made in the water near Strawberry Bank in Linlithgow at around 9.30am on today.

Police were called to the scene after the alarm was raised and are understood to still be in attendance.

Local reports suggest officers have cordoned off sections of Strawberry Bank and the nearby Manse Road while enquiries are ongoing.

The cause of death is not yet clear and the gender of the person involved has not yet been disclosed.

Police Scotland have confirmed they are investigating. A force spokesperson said: “Officers are in attendance at Strawberry Bank, Linlithgow following the discovery of a body within the water.

“Police were called around 9.30am on Tuesday, 21 February, 2023 and enquiries are ongoing.”
