Body pulled from River Tyne believed to be missing Gateshead dad Craig Reed

A body pulled from the River Tyne is believed to be a dad who went missing from his home just before Christmas.

Officers believe that the man is Craig Reed, who disappeared from his home in Teams, Gateshead on December 16.

He had not been seen for more than three weeks when emergency services recovered the body on Wednesday, January 8 after being called to Newcastle's Quayside.

Since then, Craig's family has been supported by officers.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "Although formal identification is yet to take place, police do believe the body of a man that was recovered from the River Tyne on January 8 is that of missing Gateshead man Craig Reed.

"Officers continue to support his family at this difficult time but they do not believe there has been any third party involvement in his death. A report has now been prepared for the coroner."

His sister Lynsey Allison had appealed for the 39-year-old dad-of-one to return home before being given the devastating news.

His disappearance was previously described by Lynsey as "out of the blue" and "very unlike" Craig.
