Body pulled from River Clyde in search for missing vulnerable Scots pensioner

A body has been pulled from the River Clyde in the search for a missing pensioner.

Brian Porteous disappeared from his home in Woodburn Court, Hamilton which sparked a major police investigation.

Officers from Police Scotland were made aware of the discovery of the 80-year-old at around 9.45am on Sunday, April 19 almost a month after he was reported missing on March 21.

A formal identification is still to take place but his family have been made aware following the discovery this morning at Bothwell Bridge, near Hamilton.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "We can confirm that the body of a man has been recovered from the River Clyde at Bothwell Bridge near Hamilton.

"Officers were made aware around 9.45am on Sunday, 19 April.

"The body is still to be formally identified but the family of Brian Porteous, 80, has been informed.

"Mr Porteous was reported missing from his home in Hamilton on Saturday, 21 March.

"There are no apparent suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course."
