A body has been pulled out of a canal close to a quiet residential street in Greater Manchester.
Emergency services were called to Leigh shortly after 9.30am today, and firefighters, paramedics and a specialist boat crew were deployed.
Eyewitnesses also reported seeing a helicopter overhead as divers went into the water.
The police had first been called to the scene after people were concerned for a man's welfare near the Leigh Branch of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.
A North West Ambulance Service spokesman said: "The ambulance service were called to Surrey Road at 9.37am.

"An ambulance, a rapid response vehicle and an advance paramedic were sent.
"No one has been taken to hospital."
A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue firefighter said: “There was a body and it was pulled from the canal.“

In a statement Greater Manchester Police said: “At around 9.25am on Thursday, May 21, police were called to reports of concern for the welfare of a man in water off Warwick Street, Leigh.
“Officers attended and a man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
“There are believed to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.
“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances."
