Body of young man tragically found in shock Dublin discovery named locally as tributes paid

A man whose body was tragically found in Dublin City one day before Christmas Day has been named locally.

Homeless young man Michael Mois was discovered in Phoenix Park on December 23rd making him the third homeless person to die in the capital in just nine days.

Volunteering group 'Homeless Mobile Run' confirmed the heartbreaking news on their social media.

This takes the number of homeless deaths in Dublin this year alone to nearly sixty people in what has been one of the most concerning years on our streets ever.

The group who provide food, drinks, clothes and toiletries every Wednesday on Grafton Street for the homeless said: "So sad to hear another one of our friends passed away on December 23 in the Phoenix Park, RIP Michael Mois, so sad."

Tributes flowed in for Michael who was described as a "beautiful man, with a gentle smile".

One person said: "I remember him from the the soup run. Lord rest his soul. So sad RIP Michael.

Another added: "RIP young man, you have a beautiful bed in heaven now. Rest easy.

A third said: "What a young man with a gentle smile, RIP Michael."

On December 21, a person, understood to be homeless was tragically found in the Frederick Street area.

Anthony Walsh, the founder and CEO of the Feed Our Homeless charity, said “It’s very sad to hear two more homeless people have lost their lives in Dublin over the Christmas period.

"This brings the number to 60 homeless people who lost there lives in 2020 alone that we know of.

"It's become the norm in 2020 to hear another homeless person has lost their life which is disgraceful and also totally unacceptable.

"We certainly do not want this trend to continue in 2021.

"A lot of these deaths could have been prevented within the private operated hostels if they were made safer along with ensuring proper access to wrap around services and also trained staff [should be] made available within private emergency hostels to cater to the needs of our most vulnerable people in society.

"How many more homeless people have to lose their lives in 2020 before emergency private operated hostels are made safer.

"The management here at Feed Our Homeless would like to send our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the homeless men who lost their lives over the Christmas period.

"Its change we need and by homeless charities like ourselves and others highlighting the unsafe private run homeless services along with deaths and what we see on the ground on daily and nightly basis.

"Hopefully the relevant authorities along with government listen and things change."
