THE body of a woman has been pulled from the water following a major multi-agency emergency response at a beach in Fife.
Emergency services were called to Leven Beach at around 7am on Wednesday following a report of concern for a person in the water.
Coastguard teams from Leven, Kinghorn and St Andrews, along with a lifeboat from Kinghorn RNLI, and a helicopter from Ayr, were all called to the scene as part of the large-scale operation.
Police have since confirmed that a woman’s body was recovered near the Promenade in Leven at around 9am, two hours after the major search was launched.
A spokesperson for the force said the woman's next of kin has been made aware.
Detectives said they are treating the incident as unexplained, but not suspicious and that a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 9am on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, the body of a woman was recovered from water near Promenade, Leven. Next of kin is aware.
“The death is being treated as unexplained however there do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.”
A HM Coastguard spokesperson said: “Kinghorn lifeboat was launched at 7.13am following a call from Police Scotland to assist in a concern for a person incident.
“A coastguard rescue helicopter was also brought in to assist.”
