Body of woman pulled from Scots river after late night multi-agency search

A woman’s body has been found in a Scots river after a late night rescue mission.

Emergency services were called to the Dighty Burn in the Monifieth area at around 10.45pm on Tuesday.

Concerns had been raised about the welfare of a woman in the area.

A search, including resources from HM Coastguard and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, took place with the tragic discovery made near the River Tay a short time later.

Formal identification has yet to take place, although it's believe the woman is around 70, and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal regarding the sudden death.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 10.45pm on Tuesday, 16 February, officers were called to the Monifieth area following a report of concern for a woman.

“Emergency services, including the Coastguard, attended and the body of a woman was later recovered from the water at the Dighty Burn.

“Inquiries into the circumstances are ongoing and, as with all sudden deaths, a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
