Body of woman found on M4 carriageway as police launch investigation

A police investigation has been launched following the discovery of a woman’s body on the M4 motorway in South Wales this morning.

Police were called to the scene on the stretch of road between junctions 47 and 48, between Penllergaer and Hendy, near Swansea, shortly after 4.30am.

The motorway was closed in both directions for several hours, with traffic diversions put in place, resulting in long queues, Wales Online reports.

A South Wales Police spokesman said: “Shortly after 4.30am this morning officers were called to an incident on the M4 motorway between junctions 47 and 48.

"Officers are investigating the sudden death of a woman whose body was located on the carriageway.

"The motorway was closed in both directions for several hours with local traffic diversions put in place.

"The motorway has since reopened.
