Body of woman found in Carlow after emergency services alerted to river rescue

The body of a woman aged in her 40s was recovered from the River Barrow in Carlow on Sunday.

Emergency services were searching the water near Muine Bheag during the afternoon when the body of the woman was found.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene with a post-mortem determining the course of the investigation.

Gardai are believed to be treating the death as a tragic incident.

A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí in Muine Bheag were alerted to an incident on Sunday 4th October, 2020 at approximately 4.30p.m. where a body was recovered from the water in the River Barrow at Fenniscourt Weir.



"The deceased woman (late 40s) was pronounced dead at the scene and her body was removed to Waterford Regional Hospital where a post mortem will take place in due course.

"A file will be prepared for the Coroners Court."
