A woman has been found dead in her western Sydney unit and her burnt-out car has been discovered dumped in bushland.

The 28-year-old's death was reported to police on Monday afternoon by a woman who knew her who said she'd found the body in the Penrith apartment.

Police said initial inquiries suggested a third person had been at the unit before the woman arrived and made the discovery.

The dead woman's burnt-out vehicle was found in bushland at nearby Castlereagh.

Police are urging anyone with information to contact them.
