Body of woman, 20s, found in Leigh Woods after 'sudden' death

The body of a woman, aged in her 20s, has been found in Leigh Woods.

Officers attended the National Trust-owned woodland near the Clifton Suspension Bridge at around 4.30pm on Monday (July 12) following reports of a woman's death.

There had been local reports of police activity at the woods that afternoon.

The body of a woman in her twenties was subsequently found, with no cause of death having yet been confirmed.

The death was described as "sudden".

However, Avon and Somerset Police, in confirming the discovery of the body today (July 15), said the death was not being treated as suspicious.

The force also confirmed it was continuing to carry out enquiries on behalf of the coroner.

The statement said: "Officers attended Leigh Woods at about 4.30pm on Monday, July 12 following the sudden death of a woman in her twenties.

"The woman’s death is not being treated as suspicious and we’re carrying out further enquiries on behalf of the coroner’s office."
