Body of 'unidentified drowning victim' pulled from pond in New York City's Central Park

The body of an unidentified man - thought to have drowned - was pulled from a pond in New York City's Central Park on Labor Day.

Police were alerted at 12.27pm on Monday after passersby reported seeing the body floating near the Loeb Boathouse, Manhattan, reports NBC News.

NYPD divers were pictured using a body board to fish out the man - with the water located off Fifth Avenue and 59th Street.

It is a block from The Plaza Hotel and nicknamed Swan Lake.

Members of the city's fire department were also involved in retrieving the body.

A red tarp covered the man who was pronounced dead at the scene but has not yet been identified.

The cause of death has not yet been determined with an autopsy to be performed.

It is unclear how long the body had been in the water when it was discovered.

It comes after the body of a man was found hanging from a tree near a children's attraction in the famous park in February.

Police were called to the scene on a Sunday morning after a passerby spotted the body around 6am.

It was discovered near the Alice in Wonderland statue, which is a popular attraction for children near East 74th Street and Fifth Avenue.

Pictures showed nine officers standing around what appeared to be a corpse covered in black plastic.

The man was reported to have been in his 40s.
