The body of a homeless man has sadly been found in Dublin in the early hours of this morning.
The shock discovery was made in the North Wall area near the IFSC where the man in his 40s was found just before 6am.
Gardai say they are investigating "all circumstances" surrounding his death but are not treating it as suspicious.
The man's body has been removed to the City Mortuary and Gardai say the results of that will determine the course of the investigation.
Inner City Helping Homeless (ICHH) CEO Anthony Flynn said he was "completely saddened" by yet another death on our streets.
He said: "We have consistently called for the activation of the 'Cold Weather Initiative', this has failed before it has started. Nobody should be on the streets in a pandemic.
He added: "How loud do we have to shout, how many more have to die?"
Feed Our Homeless founder Tony Walsh echoed those words.
He said: "Very sad to hear another life has been lost to the streets.
"We have constantly been calling on the Minister for Housing and also the relevant authorities to activate the much needed cold winter initiative emergency beds to help those most vulnerable out on our streets.
"And more importantly to help prevent any deaths like this occurring out on our streets."
He added: "Nobody should have to lose their life like this or sleep rough in unacceptable conditions, particularly during a pandemic.
"FOH would like to send our sincere condolences to his family and friends."
A Garda spokesman said: "We are investigating all the circumstances following the discovery of a body of a male in his 40s on North Wall this morning, Friday 23 October at approximately 5:40am."
He added: "His body has since been removed to the City Mortuary where a post-mortem is due to take place, the results of which will determine the course of the investigation."
