Body of teenage girl found in woodland

The body of a teenage girl has been found in woodland in Gwynedd.

In a statement issued by North Wales Police a spokesman confirmed officers discovered the body of a 15-year-old girl in woodland in Tanygrisiau, Blaenau Ffestiniog on Thursday. The young girl has not yet been identified publicly.

The discovery came after police received a call at 8.24am on Thursday reporting concerns for the safety of a local girl, NorthWalesLive reports.

Detective Chief Inspector Lee Boycott added: "The circumstances of this tragic incident are not being treated as suspicious and the local coroner has been informed.

"I would like to offer my sincere condolences to the family and I would request that their privacy is respected at this very difficult time."

The road leading up to the quarry in Tanygrisiau was closed for most of the day while police attended the scene.

Traffic and travel monitoring site Inrix says: "Glanypwll Road in both directions closed due to police incident between Blaenau Ffestiniog and Tanygrisiau. Traffic is coping well.

"The road to Cwmorthin Quarry has been closed."
