Body of teenage girl, 19, found by footpath

The body of a 19-year-old girl has been discovered close to a popular footpath in Bury, Greater Manchester.

Witnesses at the scene said that they spotted police officers searching land close to an old railway bridge.

Greater Manchester Police said they were called to reports of the concern for a person's welfare at an address on Brandle Avenue in Bury.

One resident living nearby told the Manchester Evening News : "I woke up at about 3am and there were ambulance and police parked on the street.

"They walked towards the bridge and behind my house and there was some activity over there.

"It was quite unsettling to see."

The circumstances around the woman's death are not being treated as suspicious.

Greater Manchester Police said a file has been passed to the coroner.

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said: "We were called to Darlington Close at 1.35am on Wednesday.

"We attended with an ambulance and rapid response vehicle, but no one was taken to hospital."
