Body of swimmer recovered on Tramore beach, Co Waterford

The body of a swimmer has been recovered following a 'tragic accident' this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the beach in Tramore, Co Waterford today following reports of clothing being found.

The body of a man, believed to be from Co Waterford, was discovered at around 1.30pm.

He was removed to University Hospital Waterford.

A search took place involving the Coast Guard's Rescue 117 helicopter, but due to poor visibility because of coastal fog it had to turn back.

Gardai said in a statement: "Gardai attended an incident on Tramore beach this afternoon, Saturday 25th April 2020 at approximately 1:30pm where the body of a male was discovered.

"The body has since been removed to University Hospital Waterford."

The incident is being treated as a tragic accident.
