Body of schoolboy found hidden in Las Vegas suitcase by a mushroom hunter

The body of a child was found by a mushroom hunter hidden inside a suitcase.

The boy has not been identified after the body was found on Saturday morning and police believe he may have been dead for a week.

The suitcase, which had a distinctive Las Vegas design on the front and back, was in middle of a wooded area in Washington County, Indiana.

Police believe the 4-feet (121cm) tall black boy was aged between five and eight, and had a short haircut and a slim build, reports WHAS.

The suitcase is 29 inches (73cm long)

Indiana State Police Sgt. Carey Huls said: "Despite the numerous news articles and TV coverage and social media posts, we don't have that answer (about his identity).

"And that is our number one goal is to find out the identity and the name of the child, and he deserves ... to be heard.

"Somebody was taking care of him. He was in somebody's custody and care for his daily needs and for support. ... Somebody out there either knows and isn't saying something or just hasn't had the opportunity to see this in the media yet and they don't know that they need to call somebody."

An autopsy did not reveal the boy's cause of death.

It is hoped that a toxicology report may provide some answers, although those results could take three to six weeks.

A tip line in the case was set up on Monday and has generated about 200 calls from members of the public, but none of the responses have led to the identification of the boy.
