Body of person found on railway tracks at Warrington

A person has died after being found on railway tracks.

British Transport Police has confirmed that they were called to reports of a casualty on the railway lines at Warrington Bank Quay, at around 10.29am today, on June 6. Paramedics also visited the scene to give the person medical attention, but the person was pronounced dead.

Officers said the death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will now be prepared for the coroner. As a result, there is disruption to trains in the north west, covering parts of Merseyside, Manchester and Chester.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: "Officers were called to Warrington Bank Quay station at 10.29am today, 6 June, following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

Liverpool Lime Street station tweeted that there is some disruption from the station, in connection to the incident. A spokesperson said: "Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident, train services are currently unable to run through Wigan North Western."

Northern, Transport for Wales and Avanti West Coast services are being cancelled and delayed. There is up to an hour of delays between Chester and Manchester Victoria, which will also cause issues on to trains coming in and out of Liverpool Lime Street.
