Body of pensioner found near Forth and Clyde Canal in Falkirk

The body of a pensioner was found near the Forth and Clyde Canal in Falkirk.

Cops have identified the 68-year-old man after the grim discovery was made yesterday.

Emergency services, including a water rescue team, were called to Main Street and Graham's Road in the town at around 11:15am on Wednesday January 27.

The area was locked down for a number of hours while cops investigated (Daily Record)

Detectives and forensics officers had the area taped off for a number of hours.

An eyewitness told the Daily Record: "I was out for my morning jog along the canal, but had to divert because cops had it all closed off."

"I asked what had happened and they said a body was found near the water."

"When I looked further down the path, there was a person in a white suite taking pictures and putting clothing in a plastic bag."

The pensioners death is being treated as unexplained, but not suspicious.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 11.15am on Wednesday, 27 January, officers were called to the Main Street area of Falkirk, near the canal, after the body of a 68-year-old man was found."

"The death is being treated as unexplained but not suspicious."

"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
