Body of missing Whitburn man Billy McDowell found in wooded area by police

Police Scotland have confirmed this afternoon that the body of a man found in a wooded area on the outskirts of Whitburn on Sunday, 18 October, is that of missing Billy McDowell.

Billy's family had been searching for the 59-year-old since August 2, when he disappeared after visiting a series of shops in West Lothian.

The family has been made aware of his body being found and the circumstances surrounding his death are being treated as non suspicious.

Billy McDowell’s family said: “The family are deeply saddened by this news. Billy will be missed by his mum, brothers and sisters and extended family and friends. We will meet again.”

Inspector Myles Marshall, of Livingston Police Station, said: “Our thoughts are still with Billy’s family and friends and we will continue to provide assistance and support to his family.
