Body of missing student, 21, found with noose around her neck in shallow grave

The body of a 21-year-old student has been found in a shallow grave with a rope around her neck after she went missing, it is reported.

Julia Rosenberg had gone missing while she was walking from the Pauba beach to the Maresias beach in the town of Sao Sebastiao in São Paulo, Brazil, on Friday.

Following her disappearance a rescue team had been searching for her with the grim discovery made the next day by firefighters, Star Online reports.

The student's partially buried body was found by firefighters near a path at around 11am covered in leaves and soil.

She is believed to have been strangled with local media outlet R7 Noticias reporting a rope was found around her neck and tissue in her mouth.

Local newspaper Globo reported that she had a mark on her neck "similar to that of a purse belt with a buckle" but suffered no other injuries and there were no signs of her being sexually assaulted.

R7 reports Mucio Matos, the prosecutor who has been placed in charge of the case, said Julia was found fully clothed.

Julia lived in São Paulo but had been spending the coronavirus quarantine in her family's home in the seaside town of Sao Sebastiao, with Globo reporting that she went missing seven minutes away from the home.

R7 Noticias report the police have not yet recovered Julia's mobile phone to try to use the data from the device to identify her killer or killers.

Civil Police have said they will use security cameras from nearby residential areas to try to identify suspects, according to Globo.

The investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been reported.
