Body of missing North Shields pensioner Robert Brown is found in Northumberland

The body of a missing North Shields pensioner has been found in Northumberland, police have confirmed.

Robert Brown, 72, was reported missing last week after visiting family in Fife, Scotland.

He was last seen on CCTV at Kirkcaldy railway station at around 10.15am on Thursday, January 30.

He boarded a CrossCountry train bound for Newcastle but never arrived, prompting police to issue a public appeal in a bid to trace him.

Officers believed he was intending to return home to North Shields, but may have departed the train at Berwick.

But police have now confirmed that his body has been found in Tweedmouth, Berwick-upon-Tweed, on Sunday.

A spokesman added: "The body of a man found in Tweedmouth on Sunday, February 2 has been identified as Robert Brown, from North Shields, who was reported missing after getting on a train in Kirkcaldy, Fife, on Thursday, 30 January.

"His family have been informed and our thoughts are with them."
