Body of missing man from Maesteg found on mountainside five months after he was last seen

The body of a missing man from Maesteg was found on a mountainside five months after he was last seen, an inquest heard.

Keith Price, of Mill View Estate, Maesteg, was reported missing by his family on August 14 of last year.

The 64-year-old had last been seen by friends and family the day before.

South Wales Police published multiple appeals and carried out various lines of enquiries, but Mr Price couldn't be located, Pontypridd Coroner's Court heard.

Five months later, on January 5, 2020, the body of Mr Price was discovered by a member of the public walking through a mountainside in Maesteg.

An inquest into the death of Mr Price was opened on Wednesday, May 27.

Lauren Howitt, a coroner's assistant for South Wales Central Coroner's Office, told the hearing: "On Saturday, January 5, 2020, a member of the public was walking along the mountainside area in Maesteg and located the remains of a human body in the undergrowth.

"Police were contacted and the body was located along with a watch and a wallet continuing the ID of Mr Price."

A DNA test later confirmed the body was that of Mr Price.

A post-mortem examination was carried at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff but a provisional cause of death could not be ascertained.

Assistant coroner Rachel Knight adjourned the inquest until May 4, 2021.
