Body found in search for missing East Kilbride man Lewis Simpson

Police say they have found the body of a man believed to be missing 20-year-old Lewis Simpson from East Kilbride.

The body was discovered in the River Clyde today.

The death is being treated as unexplained but police say there are "no apparent suspicious circumstances".

An appeal was launched after he was reported missing on Sunday, February 23.

He was last seen in Glasgow City Centre after a night out with friends having been at Strathclyde Student Union on John Street and there was a potential sighting of Lewis in the Broomielaw area on the Tuesday.

Specialist officers told the News at the time he had not made contact with friends or family, which they said was “very unusual”.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "The body of a man was recovered from the River Clyde near Mavisbank Gardens, around 11.45am on Wednesday, 25 March.

"The man is still to be formally identified but the family of 20-year-old Lewis Simpson – who had been reported missing on Sunday, February 23, 2020 – have been informed."
