Body of missing boy, 16, found in river

A body was found by rescue teams searching for a 16 year old boy who went missing after reportedly falling into a river.

Cheshire Police confirmed officers searching for the missing boy in Frodsham found a body, which was recovered from the River Weaver at around 11.30am today.

Formal identification has not yet taken place but it is believed to be that of the missing boy.

The teenager’s parents have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

Superintendent Alexander McMillan, from Cheshire Constabulary said: “This appears to be a tragic accident and our thoughts are with the boy’s family at this difficult time.”

Search and rescue teams worked for hours after receiving reports a 16 year old boy may have fallen into the water.

Police, fire and ambulance services were dispatched to the scene with helicopter support overhead and a dog team present.

The A56 Sutton Causeway to Chester Road and swing bridge were sealed off while emergency services worked in the area.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said emergency services were called to the area at around 3.50pm on Monday.

It was initially reported by police that the child who was feared to have fallen into the river was believed to be 11 years old, but their statement has since been updated to say the boy is believed to be 16.

Anyone with any information in relation to the incident is asked to call Cheshire Police on 101 quoting IML 1041072.
