Body of man who went missing five years ago found

Bones found on a Weston-super-Mare cliff path have been identified as a man who went missing from the town five years ago.

The bones were found by a member of the public on the side of a cliff near the Kewstoke Road - known as the toll road - on May 9 this year.

A police investigation was launched with a post-mortem and DNA tests carried out on the bones.

Tests have now revealed the remains are that of Scott Cook, who was also known as Jay.

Scott, who was 25 years old when he went missing, was last seen leaving his home in Sunnyside Road, Weston-super-Mare in April 2015. Scott’s family have been informed.

A lengthy and in-depth investigation followed in an attempt to trace his whereabouts.

His death is being treated as unexplained and is not being treated as suspicious.

DC Donna Stevenson said: “Our thoughts go out to Scott’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.

“They put a great deal of effort into campaigning for information about his disappearance.

“Over the past five years a detailed investigation has been carried out as we all continued to hope for a happy resolution. We’d like to thank everyone who supported our appeals.

“At this time we are considering Mr Cook’s death to be unexplained, however we do not believe the circumstances to be suspicious.

“We’ll continue to carry out enquiries on behalf of the coroner.”
