Body of man wanted over stabbing found at SA reservoir

The body of a man wanted over the stabbing of a woman at Murray Bridge has been pulled from the water at a reservoir south of Adelaide.

Police yesterday launched a manhunt after the 49-year-old from Murray Bridge allegedly attacked the 24-year-old woman just before midday.

The victim was found on Rocky Gully Road with stab wounds and was rushed to a local hospital.

She was then airlifted to Flinders Medical Centre where she remains in a serious but stable condition.

Police said she had been stabbed "by a man known to her" but have not elaborated about the pair's relationship.

The man left the scene of the assault before police arrived and his car, a black Nissan Navara, was tracked to the Mount Bold reservoir.

Police conducted a search of the area last night.

"With the assistance of divers from SA Police Water Operations Unit, [police] located the body of the suspect in the water," police said in a statement.

Police said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the man's death.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the incident and have asked anyone with information to call Crimes Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
