Body of man tragically discovered in Cork City centre

The body of a man was tragically discovered in Cork City centre overnight.

A passerby spotted the man on Oliver Plunkett Street and contacted gardai, who pronounced him dead at the scene.

It is believed to have been a sudden death and gardai are not treating it as suspicious at the moment.

The deceased is believed to have been in his 40s.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses who may have any information to get in contact.

A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí in Anglesea Street, Cork are investigating the discovery of a body of a man (late 40s) on Lower Oliver Plunkett Street in the early hours of this morning.

"The body has been removed to the morgue in Cork University Hospital, where a post mortem will take place.

"The results of the post mortem will determine the course of the investigation."
