Body of man recovered from River Irwell

A body of a man has been recovered from the River Irwell at a village near Bolton .

Police and ambulance crews were called to the river close to Kearsley Mill, off Seddon Lane, in Prestolee, near Stoneclough just before noon today.

The North West Ambulance Service confirmed an ambulance, two rapid response vehicles and an operational commander had been dispatched to the scene.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police confirmed that a dog walker had reported spotting a body in the river at 11.45am today.

An underwater search team was sent to the scene and the body of a man in his 30s was recovered from the water.

The incident is linked to a large police presence earlier in the day at Moses Gate Country Park in Farnworth where officers, including police divers, were carrying out a search.
