Body of man recovered from river in Co Kilkenny

The body of a man has been recovered from the River Nore in Co Kilkenny this afternoon.

Gardai and the Kilkenny Sub Aqua club recovered the body shortly after 12:30pm and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Canoeists in the river spotted the body near Kilkenny castle alerting authorities who arrived at the scene immediately.

It is believed the man has been missing for a number of weeks with searches ongoing since then.

A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí in Kilkenny are investigating the death of a man whose body was recovered from water beside Canal Walk, Kilkenny. The recovery occurred this morning 11th March 2020 at approximately 10.30am.

"The man’s body was removed from the water and taken to the mortuary at University Hospital Waterford where a post-mortem is due to be carried out."
