Body of man recovered from River Boyne after rescue operation in Co Louth

The body of a man was recovered from the River Boyne this afternoon.

The body was recovered from the water near the Townley Hall area of Drogheda, Co Louth.

Shortly after 4pm today the underwater search unit attached to Boyne Fishermen’s Rescue and Recovery Service was alerted to the fact that someone had got into difficulty in the water.

The service, as well as the Drogheda Coast Guard, attended the scene.

The body of the man, thought to be in his 30s, was recovered from the river and taken to the morgue at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda.

Gardai confirmed tonight that officers are investigating the circumstances surrounding the recovery of the body.

A postmortem examination is scheduled to take place in the coming days.
