KHARGONE: The body of a 28-year-old man who went missing since the riots broke out in Khargone on April 10 was identified in Indore on Monday, prompting the local administration to forgo relaxations and clamp down curfew restrictions in the violence-hit town.

The victim was identified as Ibrez alias Saddam, a sweeper with the local municipal corporation.

Family members of Ibrez identified his body at MY Hospital in Indore and buried him in Khargone in the presence of a large police force.

The curfew relaxation extended for six hours was cancelled and the restrictions will be in force till further notice, an official release said.

“The body was found on April 10. The post-mortem was carried out on April 11. A case of murder was registered against unidentified people. Since there was no facility to keep the body, it was shifted to MY Hospital in Indore,” state home minister Narottam Mishra said.

The family had lodged a missing complaint on April 14, following which the body was identified and handed over, he said, adding that the final rites of Ibrez were performed and the case was being investigated.

Ibrez and his brother Akhlaq were together when he went missing. The brothers got separated in the commotion. “Akhlaq did not inform the police about Ibrez's disappearance,” the IPS officer said.

Akhlaq later alleged that Ibrez was killed with sharp-edged weapons and was last seen at a police station. “Police did not inform us about the whereabouts of the body for a week,” he alleged.

Jaiswal said that the body of another unidentified 35-year-old youth found at Barwaha police station area of Khargone district was also been kept safe in the mortuary of MY Hospital.
